The second Sunday in May is Mother's Day. Today, people typically give their mothers flowers and gifts on Mother’s Day, such as red carnations and roses. However, look back at the history of Mother’s Day. Ann Reeves Jarvis organized women’s clubs in the 1860s to serve suffering mothers and children. From the effect of the economy of her day, she could see the needs of women and children by sharing with them about hydration for fevered babies, about sanitation, and nutrition. Especially during the Civil War, April 12, 1861-May 26, 1865, Ann Jarvis built a field hospital and recruited nurses for military hospitals, and after the war, formed friendship clubs to promote reconciliation. War could be a result of the combination of human sinful nature and the evil of social structure. Sin is the consequence of man’s inclination to usurp the prerogatives of God, to think more highly of himself than he ought to, observing the limits to which a creaturely freedom is bound. A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. She is clothed with strength and dignity. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. Establish the work of our hands. Ann Jarvis’ work for women could be considered as a significant testimony that women—and especially mothers—were best suited to break the discrimination and bring people together with a goal of peace. As Ann wishes, she hopes that someone, sometime, will find a memorial Mother's Day commemorating her for the matchless service she renders to humanity in every field of life. She is entitled to it. After Ann Jarvis’ death, her daughter, Anna Jarvis, organized the first official Mother's Day celebration in a Methodist Church in Virginia in May 1908 and established a national Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May, the day her mother had died. President Wilson proclaimed the first national Mother’s Day just before the start of World War I in 1914. The ambition of rulers exhausted themselves and domestic life in mutual murder by their specific skills and powers instead of treating man as the brother of man. By contrast, in the name of womanhood and of humanity, we wish our husbands not to come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause, and our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy, and patience. Thus, all women who have hearts, we should promote the alliance of the different nationalities, the amicable settlement of international questions, and the great and general interests of peace.

Now, during International Mother's Day in most countries, it is not about the flowers you give, it is about the love and gratitude to the woman who raised you or the mother who gave you life. Wishing the most amazing mom a very Happy Mother's Day!
